Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, welcomed H.E. Mr. Ulric Shannon, the Canadian Ambassador to Cairo, and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, they discussed opportunities for cooperation between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Canadian Embassy with regard to the organization of various cultural events and activities that would support bilateral relations and strengthen the bonds of friendship and collaboration between Egypt and Canada.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Heba El-Rafey, Acting Head of the BA External Relations and Media Sector.

The Canadian Ambassador praised the significant cultural role played by the BA, particularly the activities offered by the Library's Francophone Activities Center in collaboration with the Embassy, as well as its cultural and artistic activities that promote Francophone culture in Alexandrian society, the latest of which was hosting a band from the Canadian province of Quebec.

The Canadian Ambassador listened to an explanation by Dr. Ahmed Zayed about the mission of the BA and its cultural centers and research institutes. They exchanged views on sociology, a field in which Dr. Zayed is a leading figure, as well as Arabic literature, which the Canadian Ambassador expressed his passion for and interest in. At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged commemorative gifts.

Following the meeting, the Canadian Ambassador and his accompanying delegation took a tour of the Library and listened to a detailed explanation of its most important departments.
