Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the Library staff sincerely congratulate H.E. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, on his election as Chair of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS), the international body responsible for leading global policies on sport and physical education and promoting their role in development, health, education, and equality.

This selection reflects the confidence of UNESCO member states in Egypt's regional and international role and its pioneering contributions in supporting youth issues, social inclusion, and sports as a tool for achieving sustainable development goals. It also highlights Egypt's ability to lead the major international mechanisms involved in formulating sports and physical education policies at the global level.

In recent years, CIGEPS has launched important initiatives within UNESCO, including the development of new international standards for inclusive and safe sports. Egypt's chairmanship is expected to contribute to strengthening the committee's role as a global platform for policy-making, expanding the participation of countries and partners, mobilizing funding for the International Fund for Physical Education and Sport, and establishing mechanisms for closer communication with young people, athletes, and communities.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina would like to commend the significant support given by the Egyptian political leadership to the youth and sports sectors and to strengthening Egypt's presence within international organizations, which has contributed to enabling national talent to assume influential positions at the global level. The confidence of member states in electing Egypt to chair the CIGEPS is a direct reflection of the state's policies, which place investment in people, youth empowerment, and the development of the institutional structure of sports at the forefront of its priorities, thereby enhancing Egypt's ability to actively participate in shaping international policies and supporting UN initiatives related to sustainable development.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is proud of this Egyptian international achievement and appreciates the role played by H.E. the Minister in strengthening Egypt's presence on the map of international organizations, wishing him continued success and guidance in his new duties that will help achieve further progress for all member states and for causes that serve humanity.
