The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted Egypt's first national quantum computing hackathon, which was sponsored by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Open Quantum Institute (OQI), iQafé, and IBM. The event, which took place from 3-5 September 2025, is a leading platform that brings together researchers, students, and innovators to explore quantum technology applications across multiple fields.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Ahmed Samir, Head of the BA Information and Communication Technology Sector, who delivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA. He stressed the Library's keenness to cooperate with its international and local partners in planning this event through preparatory programs and scientific activities that were held over the course of an entire year and included workshops, training courses, and specialized laboratories in quantum computing technologies to qualify participants and enable them to embark on this unique experience.
